Reviving Artemis is the unlikely story of a literature teacher that raised domestic livestock\, kept bees\, and cultivated fruits and vegetables\, who\, at the age of sixty\, was overtaken by a primal urge to step out of the garden\, off the blazed trails\, and into untracked forest to learn to hunt deer. Deeply personal\, lyrically told\, and funny\, Reviving Artemis reveals Luskin’s ambivalence about guns and her fear of entering the forest alone in the dark. \nBriar Patch Books will have copies of Reviving Artemis for sale at this event. \n \nDeborah Lee Luskin moved from New York City to Vermont in 1984 to write\, garden\, keep bees\, and raise daughters. Luskin has been an editorial columnist\, radio commentator\, pen-for-hire\, and blogger. Her first novel\, Into the Wilderness\, won the Independent Publishers Gold Medal for Regional Fiction. Luskin has also enjoyed a long career as an educator\, teaching writing and literature-based humanities to gifted elementary writers\, college students\, new adult readers\, lifelong learners\, healthcare workers\, and prison inmates. She lives with her husband in Southern Vermont. \nDeborah has just been named an Artemis Ambassador by the National Wildlife Federation. \nDeborah Lee Luskin has been living and writing about Vermont for over 40 years.

DESCRIPTION:Join me in a Nature-Based Memoir Writing Circle\, Friday\, May 8\, from 5-8 in Narrowsburg\, NY. \nWriting Circles help writers of any ability to overcome the fear\, loneliness\, and procrastination by writing in community with support. I create a safe space and provide prompts for timed writing exercises designed to prime the creative pump. \nParticipants focus and fly\, letting loose the unknown in the wonder of words. Those who wish may read this new work aloud while all participants bear witness to the strange and wonderful stories that emerge. I teach a positive response practice that engenders a synergy where participants invariably write more\, write better\, and write with greater confidence. \nThis nature-based writing circle will use prompts from the natural world to poke memory and provide imagery.
