It’s now a race to finish laying the bricks and get the roof on the outdoor bake oven before the weather turns. Fortunately, we’ve been blessed with exquisite fall weather, including golden leaves that amplify the slanting, autumn sun.
Truth be told: Andy has taken the lead on the masonry, with Tim as his tender.
Andy has done all the design work on the arch. He’s figured out the angles for the gable and the roof. Tim has cut bricks and mixed mortar. They’ve done all this work on alternate weekends, though Andy took vacation days in the race to the finish.
Meanwhile, I’ve stepped back from The Project to clean up the garden after several mornings of killing frost. I also had a play date with my daughter Ruth Shafer, a fiber artist who invited me to a daylong basketweaving workshop with artist Alexa Rivera. It was so much fun.
Alexa is a fabulous teacher as well as an amazing artist. Fifteen of us, including several fiber artists, but also an epidemiologist, a florist, and a writer (me!) all wove a basket in a few hours.
The Wednesday Writing Circle continues online for three Wednesdays in November. Details Here
