To Write, Edit, Coach:
Writing is hard and lonely. I know – and I can help. I can help you discover your voice, address your audience, develop your ideas, write to purpose, write grammatically, and say what you mean.
I’m a skilled writer of non-fiction, with expertise in translating technical content into comprehensible language; I write profiles of interesting people at the beginning, middle and end of their game. I’ve written educational and marketing copy for major medical centers and profiled physicians, scientists, researchers and educators at the forefront of their fields. I’ve profiled otherwise obscure women who have made important contributions to regional and national history.
With years of experience as an editorial columnist and radio commentator, I’ve become mistress of compressed content and can help you say what you mean in the five hundred words or less that are the hallmark of a good blog post.
In addition to helping you get started, keep going and finish, I can also read, evaluate and edit what you’ve already written. I’m a close reader who can evaluate work under development and recommend ways to give it shape and polish while maintaining your words and voice.
To Speak, Teach, Read:
Never shy about sharing my opinions, I’m available to speak on a wide variety of topics, but especially those that have to do with reading, writing and Living In Place. Send me information about your group, the occasion for the talk, the venue and dates. I’ll get back to you with some ideas, and together we’ll figure out how I can best serve your needs.
I’ve taught writing to students from eight to eighty, students in the Ivy League and students in jail. I love to teach and have developed proven methods for successful writing circles. I offer daylong, weekend-long and weeklong writing workshops. Each workshop is custom tailored to a group’s needs, so let me know what you’re looking for – or tell me about your group and I’ll come up with some suggestions. Developing an effective workshop is a collaborative effort.
I’m also happy to read from Into the Wilderness, from my essays or from my work-in-progress and/or talk about the writing life. Send me a message with information about your group, venue and dates. Let’s talk.
To Say Hello:
I work in silence, separated from my readers. I’d love to know what you think. Spelling doesn’t matter, but civility does, so drop me a line and say hi.
