I was eating lunch on the porch.
The hummingbird approached, but the feeder was missing.
It lay smashed on the patio.
Did it just fall?
I thought so.
Then I saw the nearby scat.
A bear.

Some years ago, after putting up my first a hummingbird feeder, stained glass, I went out shopping. When I got home I went to check the new feeder. Sitting on the corner of the back porch was a large bear picking up colorful shards of glass and licking the sugar water off each piece, like a kid licking an ice cream cone!
As soon as I read your title, I knew exactly what had happened to your hummingbird feeder!
That bear has a sweet-tooth
It makes me glad that here we only have squirrels to worry about on the bird feeders!
And I’m glad the bear didn’t come for your lunch!
Now that they’ve had a taste, this bear and their whole family may indeed stop by for lunch. There’s a reason feeders should be down by April 1.
Yup.
