There’s nothing funny about Covid-19, which is why a little levity is in order. And who better to provide it than the folks who bring resilience through laughter to those who need it most even when there isn’t a coronavirus circling the globe?
Feel Like Throwing A Pie in Someone’s Face?
Clowns Without Borders (CWB) is no stranger to the psychic toll of job insecurity, restlessness, anxiety, and travel restrictions, which is why they bring laughter to people displaced by war, famine, natural disasters and political unrest.
What’s different now is that those of us with homes and food and access to healthcare are also experiencing the discomfort of living 24/7 with our nearest and dearest – who just about now are getting on our nerves to the point where there’s nothing we’d really rather do than throw a pie in someone’s face.
Don’t know how?
Clowns Without Borders will teach you!
Like everyone except essential workers, the Clowns are stuck at home, too. For now, all tours and performances are canceled, but empathy, humanity and advocacy are still needed. Clowns can’t help making mischief even in quarantine. And you know the old saying: Give a clown a pie and a video camera and you’ll have a pie-throwing tutorial in no time flat.
Laughter is Good Medicine
Because laughter is good medicine, the clowns have made a great deal of free programming available online. But even clowns have to be paid, and the pie-throwing tutorial is their gambit to make payroll until they can go back on tour. They need to sell five-hundred virtual pies at twenty dollars each. In return, you’ll receive a special “How to Pie a Clown” video tutorial from Steve Smith, former dean of Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus. You won’t only learn a new skill, you’ll also laugh. And right about now, a little laughter is the medicine we all need.
